As you know, REACT is a 4-year research project funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, aiming to achieve island energy independence by putting in the hands of local energy communities renewable energy sources and storage systems, with a demand response smart-grid platform. In other words, our goal is to favor the community by providing the tools and knowledge available to boost their own energy production and management. We are also developing a technical and business model that will demonstrate that these technologies can bring important economic benefits, contribute to the decarbonisation of local energy systems, reduce GHG emissions, and improve environmental air quality.
And after the launch of the REACT video in English, it has been tailored for each pilot island: La Graciosa (part of the Canary Islands , in Spain), San Pietro (part of the Sardinia island, in Italy) and Inis Mór (part of the Aran Island, in Ireland), where we are encouraging people to “get on board” by switching to renewable energy systems and empowering the community with the understanding of how to produce, manage and share energy.
